When we cast our minds back just a handful of years ago, we were just a couple of budding winemakers and viticulturists. We both juggled a nomadic existence, crafting wines in rented cellar space across various wineries. Tastings often happened in unconventional settings – makeshift tables on barrels or upturned basket presses!Â
Fast forward nearly a decade. Today, Thistle & Weed, our boutique winery, has found its permanent home amidst the rolling vineyards of Stellenbosch. As we approach our 10th anniversary, it’s time to cut the ribbon on a significant milestone – the grand opening of our brand-new Tasting Room!
Drawing inspiration from the very "weeds" that flourish amongst our Cape vines, our new Tasting Room embodies a love for the land and its fruits. This philosophy has spilled over to our new Tasting Room - an unpretentious refuge for those seeking a leisurely escape where every detail invites you to unwind and appreciate life's simple pleasures: connection, authenticity, and nature’s bounty.
Our core belief lies in crafting wines that showcase a profound connection to the terroir, offering a pure expression of the land from which they come. To bring this philosophy to life, our Tasting Room offers two distinct tastings:

Each tasting session typically lasts 60 minutes and includes a guided cellar tour led by a member of our knowledgeable winemaking team. They'll share the captivating story of Thistle & Weed's journey, a bit about the winemaking process, and our philosophy. Additionally, during the tasting, you'll discover the fascinating stories behind the "weeds" associated with each wine.
The Perfect Pairing: Cheese & Charcuterie Platter
Just like a superhero needs its trusty sidekick, an authentic Cape experience deserves a perfectly paired cheese and charcuterie platter.
